Dr Jacqueline King PT, DPT, CLT

Being a health care professional was always on the cards for Dr King. Her genuine empathy has been a perfect fit for her career in physical therapy. Her best qualities shine through while helping patients overcome or mitigate trauma and disability. While she may vary her approach to each patient, every intervention is grounded in more than thirty years of experience in physical therapy practice.

Dr King graduated from the Jamaica School of Physical Therapy, University Hospital of the West Indies at Mona in July 1982. She returned to Barbados to work in the Ministry of Health for ten years. During that time she sought to improve the scope and efficiency of the services the ministry offered. She was instrumental in developing a community-based rehabilitation programme, as well as a day unit, that provided more focused and consistent care, at the Geriatric Hospital.

Dr Jacqueline King has been a pioneer in the field of sports physiotherapy in Barbados and the Caribbean. She has been the Clinical Director/Senior Physiotherapist at Sports & Physical Therapy Clinic since December of 1982. She was one of the first physiotherapists in Barbados to complete the Doctor of Physiotherapy and graduated from Utica College in New York in 2009. In 2012 she became a Certified Lymphedema Therapist in response to the increased incidence of the condition in the Caribbean and currently provides physical therapy for patients battling cancer.

She was the first team physiotherapist for Barbados' sporting teams at the CAC, Commonwealth and Olympic Games. Notably, she was also the team physiotherapist for Barbados cricket teams since 1986; worked with various West Indies Men's and Women's cricket teams from 1999 to 2014 and the Sagicor High-Performance Centre from 2012 to 2014.

Dr King is a firm believer in the necessity for continuing education in order to provide cutting edge treatment programmes and desirable outcomes. To this end, she has completed further training in Neurology, Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Adverse Neuro-Tension, Muscle Energy, Musculoskeletal techniques, Corrective Exercise Specialties, Functional Integrated Dry Needling and Instrument-assisted soft tissue manipulation as they relate to physiotherapy.

She is currently a member of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Board and is Chair of the Patient Care Committee. She is also Chair of the Paramedical Professions Council.

As a practitioner, an administrator and a pioneer in the field of physical therapy, Dr King brings a unique perspective on care to the privately run Sports & Physical Therapy Clinic. The clinic is, therefore, widely respected as one of the leading rehabilitation centres in the region.
