A journey made easier because they cared

My Challenge

On September 6, 2018, I suffered a major injury in a motorcycle accident which necessitated a rod implant to my right femur. It was the first time I ever broke a bone in my body and apparently I had to go big.

What the folks at SPT Clinic did to help me?

The day after surgery, as I lay in bed trying to determine the positions which caused me the least pain and discomfort, Jacqui King arrived. After introductions, it was straight to business. Jacqui told me to sit up and move to the edge of the bed so she could show me how to use my crutches. However, she didn't venture nearer the bed to assist me. "This woman must be crazy," I thought, and other things not publishable here. But her rationale made sense. I'd have to do it myself once I got home so I needed to work it out from early.
Though fearful I complied and she led me through a short practice session. Soon, satisfied I was ready, she gave the go-ahead for me to go home.

I attended my first session at the Sports & Therapy Clinic three days later and was assigned to Dominic Angoy, a very pleasant fellow, I thought, until he made tears flow involuntarily from my eyes.

I soon learned how accurate the saying "no pain, no gain" was.

My doctor had given a mandate and Dominic's role was to get me there.

I must say he knows his stuff and his reassurance encouraged me to press on, despite the pain. Always ready with answers and aware I had set goals, Dominic put me through the paces on my long road to full recovery. With his encouragement and caution when necessary, knowing my tendency to push the envelope, he helped me to achieve my goals patiently and safely.

From the front desk to the gym, the staff is friendly, encouraging and accommodating. I had the pleasure of working with Kwayne when Dominic was away, and the experience was seamless. So I can say they are all on the same page.

The other therapists, Mia et al, are all friendly and supportive, encouraging you as you work your way to achieving full recovery.

Where Am I Now?

I set myself a goal to be riding my bicycle within the six months my doctor said I'd be able to walk unassisted again and I'm happy to report mission accomplished.
Dominic told me the day would come that I wouldn't need him anymore and it has turned out to be bittersweet truth. Recently, on my third bicycle outing, I completed a 35-mile ride.

Sweetness!!!!
